Functional Safety

Megatrends such as mobility, urbanization and Smart Factory are shaping our world. These megatrends mark changes and affect all levels of society. As drivers of change, they are closely linked to technical innovations and disruptive technologies. At the same time, this also increases the number of safety-oriented systems and the demands on their complexity. More flexibility, increased risk awareness and new functionalities mean that more and more systems have to be identified as safety-related. Many of the required functionalities therefore require sophisticated software in terms of security.

infoteam SET GmbH

infoteam SET GmbH focuses primarily on the development of software for security functions, across all industries. For more than 35 years we have been developing functionally safe software that is part of the overall security of a complex automated system, for example in passenger transport.

Protection for people and the environment

The use of functionally safe software is always aimed at protecting people or the environment from malfunctions. Without functional safety, trains cannot run accident-free, critical systems cannot be operated safely and autonomous driving is not possible. For example, functionally safe software from infoteam SET GmbH significantly supports an innovative elevator system that will be used in the modern megacities of tomorrow.

Consideration of all current standards

An experienced expert like infoteam SET GmbH is needed for the development and certification of functionally secure software. Customers benefit from our profound knowledge and many years of experience in the development of functionally secure software up to the highest security level. Our development competence covers all current standards, so that you can have your software certified for almost all areas of application:

  • IEC 61508
  • IEC 61511
  • IEC 62061
  • DIN EN 50128
  • DIN EN 50271
  • EN ISO 13849
  • ISO 26262
  • ISO 13849

Functional Safety in Practise

Certified Development Process iFSM

infoteam Functional Safety Management” (or iFSM) is the name of our development process which is pre-certified by the TÜV for the development of functionally safe software according to IEC 61508 to SIL 3. It complies with standards in relation to design, risk management, development and testing and guarantees all the necessary documentation for certification of your software. If you already have your own process, we would also happy to use this to develop your software.

Safety & Security: Attack-Proof Software

Functionally safe software is only really safe if attacks and manipulations from external sources are not possible. We therefore recommend taking cyber security or safety from attacks [PK1] into account from the design and development phase. As both sides impact on each other, we consider safety and security requirements at the same time rather than developing each separately as is commonplace. This enables us to add security measures to the iFSM process for the relevant work steps, for example, and significantly reduce development costs and time.

See here for more information.

Secure Control System: iFSC

The development of a secure control system requires secure system components tailored to one another. It must be possible for them to be verified and validated not only individually, but also in their interaction in individual application areas.

The “infoteam Functional Safety Control” concept (iFSC concept) presents a holistic approach for the implementation of safe functions and the development of secure control systems:

  • Standard-compliant development process iFSM
  • Secure system components
    • Runtime system
    • Operating system
    • Hardware
    • Programming environment

With the system components used, which are pre-certified, proven in use and validated, development time and costs are reduced in addition to development risk. The efficiency of the development of secure application software is also increased.

Agile Software Development in a Functionally Safe Environment

In the functional safety standards, the V-model is used as a development model. If you wish, we will carry out work steps based on this linear, non-iterative model with agile development methods. This enables us to respond more quickly to any changes in boundary conditions.
